41-year-old charged with aggravated rape

A 41-year-old Houma man is being held on a $1 million bond after he allegedly raped a child.

Cobey Douglas Roberts, 41, of 221 American Boulevard, Houma, was arrested by Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies on May 29 on charges of aggravated rape of a minor.

The charges stem from a week-long investigation, according to Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter, who said that a TPSO patrolman responded to a molestation complaint. While there, the mother of a 3-year-old child informed a deputy that the child complained of being hurt by the babysitter. During that time, Roberts was listed as the suspect, according to Larpenter.

On May 29, detectives went to Roberts’ residence and he was not there. Detectives then contacted the suspect via telephone and he agreed to meet TPSO at the Sheriff’s Office.

When he reported for questioning, the suspect admitted to babysitting and inappropriately touching the child, according to Larpenter.

Roberts is charged with aggravated rape. He is currently being held in lieu of a $1 million bond. The charge of aggravated rape of a minor could mean a life sentence in prison, if convicted.

3 nabbed in meth investigation

Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that his office has arrested three people in a sting of methamphetamine conducted in the parish.

On May 30, the Terrebonne Narcotics Task Force conducted a “controlled delivery” to the residence of 332 Grace St., Houma. The delivery was a mail parcel that had been intercepted for delivery at that residence.

As a result of the investigation, TNTF seized approximately 3 pounds of suspected meth, an AK-47 assault rifle and more than $5,000 cash.

During surveillance conducted during the investigation, TNTF observed the suspected package being delivered to the residence to Kerry John Lirette, 26, of 332 Grace St., Houma. The suspect received the package and then left the residence in a red Ford F-150 pickup truck, according to authorities.

Lirette then stopped in front of the residence at 313 Grace St., and brought the suspected package inside that residence.

When he walked into the new residence, agents entered both locations to secure the properties. During that time, search warrants were conducted and the following arrests were made:

• Kerry John Lirette, age and address already listed, charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of methamphetamine, illegal proceeds from drug transactions and obstruction of justice

• Billy Landry, 43, of 311 Broad St., charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance; methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia

• Akari Williams, 31, of 313 Grace St., charged with possession with intent to distribute more than 400 grams of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm while in the presence of narcotics, distribution of a controlled dangerous substance; methamphetamine, obstruction of justice and illegal proceeds derived from drug transactions.

All of the suspects were taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail to be booked and jailed. The street value of the three pounds of meth seized on the scene is $268,800.00.
