Raceland couple arrested with marijuana, firearm

A Raceland couple was arrested after a traffic stop and subsequent searches turned up nearly 100 grams of suspected marijuana, a shotgun and a bottle of Ciprofloxacin pills, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Antonio Medina III, 28, and Shawna Medina, 35, of 145 S. Service Road, were arrested Dec. 19. Agents with the parish Drug Task Force pulled over a car driven by Antonio Medina that was allegedly speeding and following too closely.

Shawna Medina, a passenger, allegedly gave deputies a plastic bag containing 13.9 grams of suspected marijuana during the stop. Antonio Medina, who was nervous, denied having anything illegal in the car, LPSO spokesman Brennan Matherne said.

A juvenile was in the rear seat of the car, Matherne said.

Agents, having recently conducted an investigation involving the couple, were able to secure a search warrant for the Medinas’ Raceland residence, where they found roughly 84.3 gross grams of additional suspected marijuana, a shotgun, a bottle of Ciprofloxacin pills and various drug paraphernalia, Matherne said.

The Medinas were charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a legend drug without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Antonio Medina was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and is being held at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in lieu of a $77,250 bond.

Shawna Medina was additionally charged with illegal use of a controlled drug in the presence of persons under 17 and is being held at the detention center in lieu of a $19,250 bond.
