SMPSO yields arrests

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Mark Hebert said his Narcotics Division made the following arrests this week:

• Gordon Chris Helman, 43, of 1710 Main St., Patterson, was arrested Friday at 1:06 p.m. for possession of marijuana, disturbing the peace and failure to use a turn signal.

Authorities said St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s officers patrolled the Berwick area when they observed a vehicle fail to use a turn signal, prompting a traffic stop.

During the stop, authorities said they located marijuana on Helman. While being investigated, officers said Helman started yelling and cursing.

He was taken to the parish jail and released in lieu of a $2,500 bond.

• Brandy Giroir, 28, of 1316 Victoria Riverside Road, Patterson, was arrested Friday at 3:11 p.m. for possession of a Schedule II drug (Loritab). Narcotics detectives in Morgan City said they observed a vehicle turning without a signal – prompting a traffic stop. During the stop, authorities said they located several Loritab pills in Giroir’s possession.

She was unable to provide a prescription for the pills.

Giroir was taken to the parish jail and released on a $5,000 bond.

Houma man charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile

The Houma Police Department announced this week that it has arrested a 37-year-old Houma man after witnesses said he was masturbating in a local library.

On Friday at 4:15 p.m., HPD said they were called to the library on Civic Center Blvd. in reference to a male creating a disturbance in the public building.

Once on the scene, authorities learned that Michael Smith, 37, of Dixie Street, Houma, had just left the building and was seen heading toward Lafayette Street.

Officers on patrol located him on Lafayette near Margaret Street and upon a search, authorities said they located drug paraphernalia in Smith’s possession.

Police said they took Smith back to the library where he was positively identified by witnesses.

The same witnesses said Smith was observed masturbating in the children’s section of the library.

Video surveillance identified Smith leaving the library shortly after the reported incident.

Smith is charged with indecent behavior with a juvenile, possession of drug paraphernalia and obscenity.

He is being held in the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

2 caught with drugs while trespassing during training

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said two men are being charged with drug possession after they allegedly trespassed on private property where a K-9 officer training was under way.

LPSO spokesman Brennan Matherne said Andrew Johnlouis, 33, of 415 La. Highway 20, Schriever; and Charles Craig, 21, of 127 Fairline Drive, Gray, are charged in the incident.

Matherne said last Tuesday, K-9 deputies were conducting training on the property of Lafourche Sugar, LLC in Thibodaux when deputies observed a vehicle with two males pass by and head toward a pond on private property.

Security officers at the mill informed deputies that the occupants of the vehicle were not allowed on the property.

Deputies located the men and told them they were trespassing. During the stop, a K-9 deputy performed a perimeter sweep, which alerted authorities to the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle.

Upon a search, Matherne said authorities located a bag containing several rocks of suspected crack cocaine – which Johnlouis said belonged to him.

Deputies also said Craig was found in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana.

Johnlouis was charged with possession of crack cocaine and trespassing. He has been released after posting a $5,100 bail.

Craig was issued a summons for possession of marijuana and trespassing.
