Cut Off woman dies in head-on crash on La. Highway 308

Louisiana State Police Troop C announced this week that a three-vehicle crash on La. Highway 308 near Valentine ended in a fatality.

According to Troop C spokesman trooper Evan Harrell, a 2006 Volvo semi-tractor was traveling south on La. 308 at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. The Volvo was being driven by Brian Gros, 46, of Lockport.

State police say when Gros came around a curve, he noticed a 2006 International semi-tractor driven by Mitchell Brown, 50, of Lafayette, slowing to a stop for traffic.

In order to avoid hitting the International semi-tractor, police say Gros steered to the left and entered the northbound lane of La. 308, where the Volvo struck a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer head-on.

The Lancer was driven by Shantelle Hancock, 29, of Cut Off.

After impact, police say the Lancer was pushed into the International semi-tractor.

Hancock was pronounced dead on the scene by the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office.

Police say she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Gros, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

Brown, who also wore a seat belt, was not injured.

Harrell said alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Toxicology results for both Gros and Hancock are pending.

Brown submitted to a breath test on the scene and was cleared of alcohol involvement.

Motorcyclist from crash dies at hospital

The Louisiana State Police Troop C announced Monday morning that a 25-year-old Houma man has died in the hospital after being injured in a vehicle crash last Wednesday.

Shortly after 8 p.m. last Wednesday, Troop C spokesman trooper Evan Harrell said state police investigated a single-vehicle accident on La. Highway 307 in Lafourche Parish.

The investigation yielded that Kade Levron drove a 2011 Yamaha YZFR 1000 motorcycle north on La. Highway 307 near mile post 13 when he failed to negotiate a right curve and traveled off the road to the left.

Harrell said the motorcycle struck a tree, ejecting Levron from the bike.

Levron was initially taken to St. Anne Hospital in Raceland. He was then transported to University Hospital in New Orleans.

Police say he died this weekend after being taken off life support.

Harrell said speed may have been a factor in the crash, but alcohol use is not currently suspected.

Blood was taken from Levron on the scene and toxicology results are pending.

Raceland teen arrested for assault by drive-by shooting

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced this week that a Raceland teenager is under arrest for his alleged role in a drive-by shooting that occurred last Tuesday.

Detectives were called to the 100 block of Market Street at approximately 6:30 p.m. last Tuesday after being informed of a shooting.

Once on the scene, LPSO spokesman deputy Brennan Matherne, said officers learned that two male subjects were standing on the location when a small white truck passed by.

Matherne said one of the men allegedly shouted at the truck and a verbal argument ensued with the truck driver.

Matherne said the truck eventually sped away, but returned 10 minutes later, when the driver allegedly extended his arms and fired multiple shots from a handgun in the direction of the two males. Matherne said several rounds struck a truck belonging to one of the two men.

After obtaining a description of the driver and the truck, Matherne said patrol deputies began searching the area.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., a deputy spotted a vehicle matching that description traveling on Bufford Street in Raceland. The deputy conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver as Tylor Hotard, 18, of 571 Dantin St., Raceland.

Matherne said because Hotard matched the descripton of the alleged shooter, he was taken in for questioning.

After questioning, he was arrested and booked with assault by drive-by shooting and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Car burglar nabbed in Houma

The Houma Police Department says it has nabbed a suspected car burglar responsible for three vehicle break-ins.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Thursday, HPD officers Wayne Anderson and Michael Scott were dispatched to the 100 block of Dupre Lane in reference to a burglary.

Once on the scene, police say the officers encountered a victim who stated that he heard his car door close and when he looked outside, he noticed a dome light on inside his vehicle.

Police say the victim noticed a subject outside his residence who fled the scene on a bike.

HPD officers checked the area on foot and located a male subject lying in a field near the victim’s residence.

They were able to positively identify him as Hector Enrique Cruz Rosales, 36, of Carolyn Avenue, Houma.

Police say the suspect had a large amount of change in his pockets at the time of arrest, as well as several ID cards.

Police say further investigation revealed two other cars in the area were also burglarized.

Rosales is charged with three counts of simple burglary.

Man arrested for hitting victim with baseball bat

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office announced that it has arrested a 21-year-old man who allegedly struck a suspect with a baseball bat.

LPSO spokesman deputy Brennan Matherne said that deputies responded to West 133rd Street in Galliano last Sunday in reference to an aggravated battery.

Through investigation, Matherne said deputies learned that a male subject was walking from his house to a friend’s house when he was confronted by another man, who is identified as Geraldo Reyes, 21, of 250 W. 133rd St.

Matherne said Reyes was holding a knife at the time of the confrontation.

The victim was able to avoid Reyes and proceeded to his friend’s house.

When walking back home, both the subject and his friend again encountered Reyes – this time holding a baseball bat. Matherne said Reyes swung the bat twice and missed before connecting on the third swing, hitting the man in the face and knocking him unconscious.

The friend immediately called 911.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where his left eye was observed to be black and swollen, as well as the left side of his face and cheek.

Deputies then made contact with Reyes at his residence and placed him under arrest without incident.

He is held in lieu of a $11,000 bond.
