Houma Police cited Clippa’s Barbershop stylist Clyde Scott, 31, of 201 Boykin St., Houma, last Monday after he opened the shop to cut hair for some teens in preparation of their graduation.

Officers said Scott admitted it had not been the first time Monday he’d opened the shop. Several people were inside Clippa’s waiting to get a haircut, authorities said.

According to city law, barbershops are required to close on Sundays and Mondays, as well as several holidays. The law also limits hours of operation to 8 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.

The maximum penalty for violating the ordinance is up to 30 days in jail and a $500 fine.

Scott was ordered to close the shop for the day and was issued a summons for violating the “barbershop; closing hours” law. He was ordered to appear for a future court date.
