Tropical Storm Dorian is expected to become a hurricane before making landfall this weekend/early next week.
The storm is still well away from the United States, located offshore at 12.3 N, 57.7 W. The storm has maximum sustained winds at 60 mph and the center of the storm is moving west-northwest at 14 mph.
That west-northwest motion is expected to continue for the next few days before giving way to a more northwestern track.
The National Hurricane Center track for Dorian calls for the storm to become a hurricane later this week, before weakening back into a tropical storm after making contact with Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
The NHC center line track places the storm to the east of the Florida Keys on Saturday morning near the Bahamas.
From there, model guidance varies greatly. Some models take the storm north into Georgia and the Carolinas.
Others push it into the eastern Gulf of Mexico.
