No, your phone isn’t just acting up.
Today, at 1:18 p.m., you’ll receive a message from the United States Government on your cell phone. It will test the reliability of the new “Presidential Alert” system, which can inform Americans of serious events in the country.
The test is being conducted by FEMA and the FCC and phones will be sent a message saying “THIS IS A TEST”. A special tone will also sound on each phone, if the test is conducted properly.
There will be no data charges for the message and a release says that it will begin at 1:18 p.m., but could last 30 minutes.
