Motorists are digging deeper in their pockets to fill up their tanks as the national average cost of gas rose 20 cents per gallon since April 3, climbing from $4.01 per gallon to $4.20 per gallon. As Memorial Day weekend nears, families are preparing to pack up their cars for a road trip, however experts predict the cost for holiday travel to peak over the next three weeks.

GasBuddy.com predicts the average cost per gallon will rise 39 cents more per gallon than May 2021. Partick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy said the spike in gas prices can be attributed to the imbalance between supply and demand caused by covid, and the on-going conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

As of today, the cheapest gas in Terrebonne Parish is $3.68 per gallon at Murphy USA, located at 953 Grand Caillou Road.
