A Houma police officer facing a felony domestic abuse charge was allegedly battered by his wife early Monday morning, in the latest travail of the high-profile couple, whose federal civil rights litigation against local officials resulted in out-of-court cash settlements from the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff and the Terrebonne Paris Consolidated Government.

Jennifer Anderson was arrested by city police shortly after Midnight and arrested on a charge of domestic abuse battery with a child present. Her bond was set at $500. On Dec. 25 Wayne Anderson, her husband and the alleged victim in the most recent incident, was charged with the same crime. His service weapon was surrendered when he was placed on an administrative leave which continues.

Just over a week ago State Police and city police responded to the residence answering what was later described as a request for a welfare check and remained outside the Harvest Drive home for close to two hours while Wayne Anderson was inside with one of their children. Repeated requests for details on that incident to both the city police and the State Police have not been answered.

According to a city police incident report, officers Daniel Belanger and Rory Olds were dispatched to 1818 Harvest Drive after Wayne Anderson, who was not present, wanted “a welfare check on (Jennifer) for having consumed a large amount of alcohol.”

Officers, the report says, made several attempts at contact with no success.

“Officer noticed that lights to the residence were on and off during the attempts,” the report reads. “Meaning suspect was moving around inside the residence.”

Wayne Anderson requested that officers stand by until he arrived, at which time he made entry into the house himself.

Jennifer Anderson, the report states, emerged from a bedroom and confronted her husband, then pushed him in th chest with the child present. An arrest was then made.

The Andersons gained public notice as purveyors of a blog critical of public officials in Terrebonne called “Expose Dat.” The web page was linked to a Facebook page maintained under a false identity, which Jennifer Anderson acknowledged, according to court papers, was authored by her. In response to a criminal defamation complaint by insurance broker Tony Alford over reports contained on the site, Terrebonne deputies raided the Anderson residence and seized electronic equipment. The Louisiana 1st Circuit Court of Appeal ruled that the warrant authorizing the search was invalid. The criminal defamation case was quashed, and the couple’s property was returned.

The Andersons then filed a lawsuit alleging that their civil rights had been violated, naming Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter and Parish President Gordon Dove as defendants.

The suits resulted in out-of-court cash settlements with no liability acknowledged.

Terrebonne District Attorney Joe Waitz Jr. is said to be recusing his office from the prosecution of Wayne Anderson, as he had done with recent prosecution of Jennifer Anderson for DWI. That case, according to court records, is still pending, with the last court appearance by Jennifer Anderson logged as almost a year ago.
