Users were automatically logged off Facebook Friday night in the middle of sessions, sparking a wave of confusion and conspiracy theories.
The Downdetector.com website, which tracks outages, said users who reported in suffered from log-outs. Logging back in required credentials, which many were wary of providing, fearing a hack. Others simply couldn’t remember their password, prompting more confusion about the platform experiencing a hack. The outages affected both desktop and mobile users.
At 7:06 a.m. ET on Saturday, Facebook posted an update on Twitter stating engineers “fixed the issue”, blaming a configuration change.
