On December 19, 2021, shortly after 9:00 p.m., the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Bayou Gardens Boulevard and Louisiana Highway 660 (Coteau Road) in Terrebonne Parish. The crash ultimately claimed the life of 21-year-old Kennedi Foret.

Foret, who was the front passenger of one of the vehicles, was restrained, but suffered serious injuries. She was transported by Acadian Air Med to a New Orleans area hospital for treatment. On December 28, 2021, Foret succumbed to her injuries while at the hospital. This crash remains under investigation.

Foret is the fifth Nicholls student to die in a motor vehicle crash this semester.

Dr. Michele Caruso, Vice President of Student Affairs for Nicholls State University, shared the following statement with students yesterday:

As we bring this year to a close, it is with the greatest sadness and near disbelief that I inform you of yet another tragic death of one of our Nicholls family members. Kennedi Foret, a Marine Biology major from Gray, La., died on the evening of December 28, 2021. We offer our sincerest condolences to Kennedi’s family, friends, and all who knew her.

As we have shared, our campus has experienced an inordinate amount of loss this year, and it remains true that there is no greater sadness for a university family than the loss of a student. It is a time when we turn to each other for support. As our campus heals from these losses, let’s be a little kinder and a little more patient and give each other the space to grieve.

As always, I would like to remind you that we have services to support the emotional well-being of our students, faculty and staff. I encourage those who feel they may need support or observe a Nicholls family member in distress to contact the Counseling Center, which will be available for grief related virtual appointments over the holiday break. Please email counseling@nicholls.edu.
