Most people celebrate the New Year with family or friends in the comfort of a home.

However, two local couples spent the morning welcoming Terrebonne and Lafourche’s first new faces.

Kathleen Landry, 24, and Seth Trahan, 25 celebrated the birth of their first son, Seth Joseph Trahan Jr. at Terrebonne General Medical Center. Born at 5:01 a.m., he weighed 6 pounds, 0.3 ounces and measured 19 inches long.

“It is great,” Trahan said. “I never felt that type of feeling before. Kathleen has been saying, ‘You have never felt love until you have a child.’ It is overwhelming.”

Seth Jr. is Landry’s second child; she is the mother of 3-year-old Chloe’ Verdin.

Landry and Trahan readying to attend a party shortly before Seth Jr. arrived. Plans changed when Landry announced her amniotic sac had broken.

“I Googled water breaking because I always imagined everything coming out at one time,” Trahan said. “Sure enough that is what it was.”

The experience is likely to be retold.

“You’re going to a party and then, next thing you know, you’re having a baby,” Trahan said. “I am sure he will find it pretty interesting when he gets older, too.”

Although this is not Landry’s first child, she is anxious to raise her first little boy.

“I am scared with a boy because it is totally different than having a girl,” she said.

Trahan, on the other hand, is anxious to be a role model, much like his father and stepfather are to the proud pop.

“I hope he looks up to me that way. I want to set good examples for him and teach him everything I know. I am looking forward to being a role model,” he said.

At Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Trey and Kristy LaBove welcomed Andi Michelle, the couple’s first child. Born at 1:21 p.m., Andi weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 21 inches.

The LaBoves – Trey, 30, and Kristy, 27 – have been married for eight years.

“We wanted to give ourselves sometime alone being married. When we got married, we knew we wanted to have kids. We just wanted to give ourselves sometime alone and it was out of the blue,” Trey said. “We had an attitude where if it happened, it happened. Nothing planned for sure.”

Andi’s original due date was Dec. 29, well ahead of the New Year.

“We were actually expecting it to happen before that or on that date. Whenever you are in the situation, you are not thinking about having the first baby of the year or anything like that,” Trey said. “You don’t even know what day it is. There were a few people scheduled to have a C-section at 3 a.m., but the doctor came in and said we needed to get her in now. It is so surreal. We are still trying to wrap our heads around it.”

“It just feels like a dream,” Kristy added.

After more than 20 hours of labor, doctors had to perform a C-section.

“For me, the worst part was not being able to be in there for it,” Trey said.

“It was tough not being able to see her for the first time together,” Kristy chimed.

But it was all worth it the first time Trey laid eyes on his baby girl.

“I cried like a baby. I am sure there are certain situations here that contributed to it, but whenever I got to her, I cried. I am not the type to cry,” Trey said. “There is just a wave of emotion that you can’t prepare for. It is a beautiful thing. I am still very surprised it happened like that.”

The new parents are anxious to see which of their traits their babies adopt.

“Every kid is different, so I am looking forward to seeing what kind of personality Seth Jr. has,” Landry said.

Landry and Trahan describe themselves as calm and relaxed.

“We are definitely opposites,” Trey LaBove said. Noting his wife is a shy planner, he said he is more spur of the mo-ment and outgoing. “We are hoping Andi has a good mix of both. Hopefully, she will grab (Kristy’s) good and my good sides.”
