Forty students earned induction into Fletcher Technical Community College’s inaugural Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society chapter.

Chancellor Earl Meader joined other Fletcher and Phi Theta Kappa representatives at the Beta Tau Rho Chapter’s chartering ceremony Thursday night.

Phi Theta Kappa originated with six charter members in 1910 under the name of Kappa Phi Omicron. That original charter was based at Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri. By 1918, it expanded into a national honorary society.

Modeled after Phi Beta Kappa, the prestigious senior college honorary society, Phi Theta Kappa recognizes those seeking a two-year college degree. It provides opportunities to develop leadership and service, serves as a forum to exchange ideas and ideals and offers lively fellowship among scholars to encourage continuing academic excellence.

Inductees into the Beta Tau Chapter are Icy Abraham, Lauren Barfield, Donna Bennett, Inndia Benoit, Annette Bergeron, Haley Bergeron, Tiffany Berthelot, Makayla Bonvillain, Kimberly Boudreaux, Simone Bourg, Kaitlin Brown, Crystal Brunet, Lori Crais, Mia Crotwell, Megan Deroche, Kelsi Galliano, Sarah Gaudet, Tiffany Gisclair, Darian Granier, Kerry Lapeyrouse, Tina Levron, Scottie Liner, Lacey Lirette, Savannah Loupe, Shelby McCarty, Steven Navarrette, Nicole Orgeron, Callie Pitre, Taylor Pitre, Angela Portier, Shelly Robinson, Kira Rosenberger, Melissa Sanders, Shelby Shay, Brittany Soileau, Travis Sparks, Angie Thibodaux, Holly Trosclair, Marissa Trosclair and Hunter White.
