It is a benefit event for the rest of us. This is the impression made by The Foundation for Terrebonne General Medical Center spokesman Paul Labat as he announced plans being in place for the organizations first fundraising effort. “But we will also accept those [wealthy contributors],” he joked.

“It will be held [beginning] at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 4 on the top level [of the TGMC] garage,” Labat said. “Tickets are only $40 and it will be an informal event with food provided by Big Mike’s BBQ. Billy and the Boomerangs are playing too.”

The Foundation for Terrebonne General Medical Center was officially launched in August and is comprised with a variety of business and medical professionals. The foundation’s first project, and the object for its initial fundraiser, is to finance an outreach vehicle. “It is so we can go out into the communities and provide screening and preventative health care measures,” Labat said.

“Ticket response has gone very well,” Labat said. “A lot of people are interested. It is casual on a Thursday evening, so it is not going to interfere with weekend plans or football games.”

“Maintaining TGMC’s position as the largest leading medical facility in the Tri-parish area is of significant importance to current and future residents of Terrebonne Parish,” the foundation’s Chairman Mike Fakier said.

Labat said many medical facilities frequently make use of foundations to finance equipment and specialty items out of reach for general budgets. “[The Rooftop Round-up] is open to everyone. We welcome the general public.” Labat said. “They can go to the hospital gift shop to buy tickets.”

Labat said in the case of rain, the round-up will be held on the garage’s covered third level.
