Despite its strengthening, heavy rain and flash flooding continues to be the primary concern for Terrebonne Parish as Tropical Storm Barry nears.
That update is from Terrebonne Parish President Gordon Dove, who continues to stress that he believes the parish is ready for the storm, which is expected to make landfall less than 24 hours from now on Saturday morning.
“Although the wind will pick up later today, we should expect a great deal of rain, particularly in the afternoon and tomorrow as Barry approaches the coast,” he said.
Dove and drainage crews are closely monitoring the storm and will address problems as they are reported.
The parish president said residents should check drainage ditches, culverts and catch basins for blockages that could cause back-ups and flooding.
For serious blockages, he said the parish EOC should be called at {985) 873-6357 so that a crew can be dispatched to handle the problem if it can be done safely.
Dove also addressed concerns about sandbag locations and reports that supplies were low at some locations.
He said that sandbags supplies are being replenished, but he asks residents to limit sandbags to thirty (30) so that all residents who need sandbags can get them.
“It is important,” he said, “for residents to stay vigilant and informed during this storm event. Terrebonne Parish is as prepared as it can be at this time and we will continue to monitor storm updates and take any actions that are warranted.”
