Everyone loves to shake a leg – especially on the weekends.

On Saturday, folks in Terrebonne Parish will be able to do one better. They will be able to dance and pass a good time – all while also raising money for a highly worthwhile cause.

Brickhouse Cardio Club is hosting Dance to Cure the Children: Sweating for St. Jude – a fundraiser that will raise money for children who are battling cancer at an early age.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 3688 Southdown Mandalay Road.

Cost to attend is free, though, of course, donations to the cause are welcome.

Throughout the day, there will be Zumba and Cize classes which will be led by certified instructors. There will be other fun and entertainment for people of all ages to come out and enjoy.

Proceeds to go St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

“I am super excited,” said Louise Christovich, other of the Brickhouse Cardio Club of Houma. “Myself and two associates have been working hard to make this a fun event for all. It’s been hard work, but it’s worth it when we see our work bring us toward our goal to raise $5,000 for St. Jude’s. Right now, we’re at $1,000, and we hope to surpass our goal by the weekend.”

The entire day ought to be fun for all.

Christovich said the event is sparked by the Chris Hope Foundation, which puts on Sweat for St. Jude events throughout the year for anyone in Louisiana.

Through that, the ball got rolling and the event got off the ground.

Christovich said she’s blessed because she doesn’t have a cancer story in her own life, but she knows others who have dealt with the disease.

Because of that, she got the motivation to do the event, which quickly garnered support from folks in the community.

“I don’t have a cancer story,” Christovich said. “I am inspired because there are a great number of children from Louisiana who are treated (at St. Jude’s). I can’t imagine having to go through that, and the Chris Hope Foundation helps out with funds for research, which makes it easy for the families and children through entertaining activities and/or in other ways that St. Jude may need the help.”

The center-point of the event is fund raising – most notably by using Zumba and Cize as tools to get people active in their weekend.

But the event truly will feature a little bit of something for everyone.

Christovich said there will be an abundance of food at the event, and people will be able to arrive hungry and leave with an full belly.

Also, the event will host more than 20 vendors, who will be on hand with goods that are locally created.

In addition to that, Robert Crochet from Swamp People is scheduled to make an appearance.

“There will be bounce houses for the kids, games, vendors, door prizes, drawings, food, drinks and just about everything else,” Christovich said. “The event was designed for everyone in the community to be able to have a good time and enjoy themselves.

“The entry is free. We want people to just show up and join in on the fun. Donations are welcome and appreciated, but it’s free to attend the event and have fun with us.” •
