According to a tweet from Governor John Bel Edwards’ deputy chief of staff, Louisiana is reporting its first Hurricane Laura-related death was a 14-year-old girl in Vernon Parish.
According to Edwards, the young girl died when a tree fell on her home.
Unfortunately, more storm-related fatalities are expected as search and rescue efforts get underway once conditions allow.
