Perry Gisclair

A well-known community member and long-time member of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission was killed this afternoon in a crash off La. Highway 3235 in Galliano.

Perry Gisclair, 70, of Cut Off, was killed in a crash after the tractor he was driving was rear-ended.

Gisclair is an elected official who holds Seat B on the Port Commission. Gisclair is survived by his wife, Libby, daughter April and three grandchildren.

When not working for the port, Gisclair loved to spend time with friends and family. In the winter, he often worked as one of Santa's helpers, a passion he enjoyed that gave memories to literally hundreds of local kids.

Louisiana State Police announced that around 2 p.m. this afternoon, they were called to an area just north of Joan Ann Drive in Galliano in reference to a crash.

Preliminary investigation showed that Julien Hebert, 34, of Galliano, was traveling north on La. Highway 3235 in a 2011 Chevy HHR.

Hebert was traveling in the right land when he approached Gisclair from behind. Gisclair was operating a 2015 Kubota tractor – also in the right lane.

For reasons still not known, Hebert failed to slow down for the tractor and struck it from behind.

Gisclair was thrown off the tractor and suffered critical injuries.

He was taken to Lady of the Sea General Hospital by South Lafourche Ambulance Service where he later died from his injuries.

Hebert was properly restrained and suffered minor to moderate injuries. He, too, was taken to Lady of the Sea by ambulance.

This crash remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

Troopers want to remind motorists of the importance of making safe driving decisions behind the wheel. Distractions, impairment, and fatigued driving continue to be factors in preventable crashes. While not all crashes are survivable, proper use of seat belts can greatly decrease an occupant’s chance of death and may greatly reduce the extent of injury.
