Gulf disturbance due to give area a soaking today and into next week

A tropical disturbance is in the Gulf of Mexico – just off Louisiana’s coast.

The National Hurricane Center says there’s a tiny chance for tropical development, but the primary threats with the system will be soaking rains to a Gulf Coast that’s already been drenched throughout most of late-July and August.

The center of the low is located just south of Lake Charles. Satellite loops throughout the afternoon don’t show much movement, which has drenched western Louisiana with bands throughout the afternoon.

The center of the system is expected to slowly drift to the east in the next 24-48 hours, bringing a lot of the rain field into the area.

Forecasts say the area could get 2-3 inches of rain through Monday with some isolated locations seeing 5+ inches if training occurs.
