Terrebonne Parish will once again be participating in a Christmas Tree Recycling Program to help with erosion. Residents are asked to place their Christmas trees with their normal garbage pick-up from January 3 through January 5, 2018. Residents may also drop their trees at any of the TPCG Residential Drop-off Sites located at 263 Ashland Landfill Road, 651 Isle of Cube Road in Schriever or 160 Crochetville Road in Montegut. Only green trees will be accepted. Flocked trees and trees with tinsel, decorations or tree stands still attached cannot be used.

Christmas trees collected will be placed into retention fences that have been constructed along the Intracoastal Waterway near the Mandalay National Wildlife Refuge. These trees will provide an effective wave-break, which can reduce the erosion of our marshes. In addition, the project is designed to allow the trees to work with natural wave action and act as a filter, collecting sediments in an effort to build new land.
