Children smiled with excitement as the Easter Bunny hopped around the small library in Bayou Blue to the Bunny Hokey Pokey.

The Bayou Blue Branch of the Lafourche Parish Public Library hosted the Easter Bunny to a crowd of young adoring fans, March 26.

The three librarians, Lori Olin, Crystal Robichaux and Jessica Duet stood by the doorway ready with excitement for the children to show up.

Penelope Rabbit, girlfriend of Peter Rabbit, was plain white, and played by Olin.

They fought to get the ears to stand up as they waited for the children to show up, but the moment was cut short.

“I see a child!” said Olin, rushing to hold the door open.

The child, Lilyana Landry, 3, was nervous at the sight of the large bunny and stopped short of the door, holding her mother Denise Landry’s hand.

Lewis Carroll, in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, captured the pause between the child and bunny best through the voice of his own White Rabbit:

“How long is forever?” asked Alice

“Sometimes, just one second,” responded the White Rabbit.

Olin showed her skill by taking a different approach. After a few moments of Lily coloring, Olin once again approached.

“Can I color with you?” asked the bunny. After a short pause Lilyana gave a crayon to Olin and turned to her mother with a huge smile.

With one crayon, Olin succeeded in breaking the ice. The three colored easter pictures, and danced to music as they waited for the others to arrive.

Lilyana said she was excited to take part in an Easter Egg hunt at her church. She was also hoping for M&M’s in her Frozen Basket.

The others arrived, 28 children and 13 adults, and crowded into a small room to listen to story time. “The Golden Egg Book” was read by Duet as Olin reacted and kept the children engaged.

After storytime, mothers lingered in the room with their children while they played with legos.

“It was adorable,” said Brittany Groff, a first timer to the event.

Another, Mindy Haney described her second attendance as “awesome.”

“I just like that they can just run around and grab books,” Stacey Griggs said sitting in a chair holding her baby and watching her daughter play with the group.

As the event slowed down the librarians settled in to checking books out for locals.

Duet, a librarian of the branch for 7 years, recalls the event being held every year of her employment.

The Bayou Blue library is linked with 8 other locations in the Lafourche Parish: Thibodaux, Golden Meadow, Larose, Raceland, Chocktaw, Gheens, Lockport, and South Lafourche.
