Hope and Purpose Ministries distributed food, drinks, and hurricane relief items to residents in Montegut, Point-Au-Chien, and Chitimacha Native Tribes, providing essential supplies to hundreds of families in need.

The Distribution took place at St. Lucy’s Catholic church. Cars lined up stretching half a mile, as Hope and Purpose distributed 10 palettes of food, including hams, turkeys, and essential supplies. “We went out to Houma to St.Lucy’s church, because that stuff just doesn’t flow through our community like that, we wanted to host a strategic distribution and give back to an underserved community,” said Larry Oney, president of Hope and Purpose Ministries.

Deacon Oney said the distribution was a community effort and was made possible with the help of many volunteers across Louisiana. “Down in Montegut we have a friend who is a priest, he didn’t know we were planning to come down to give back, we called the pastor and asked if we can use their church,” said Oney. “We then called a baptist church and said you guys come too; so we had baptist on the ground, we had people who came from Ponchatoula and Jefferson Parish to come and volunteer, and administer help to the people of Montegut,” he added.

In addition to the food distribution, Hope and Faith ministries distributed $3,000 worth of cash donations. Oney said the ministries decided to give away cash instead of gift cards because it would be more convenient to those in the community. “There’s nothing like having cash in your pocket, we figured, why give someone a $25 cash gift card, when we can go to the bank, pull the funds, and put it in their hand, that way they’d have it right then and there.”

Located in Kenner, LA,  Hope and Purpose is a small ministry, whose mission is to expand the kingdom of God, heal the broken-hearted, and give people a sense of hope and purpose. Deacon Oney is asking for prayers from the community for Montegut, Point-Au-Chien, and all surrounding areas that were impacted by Hurricane Ida.

“Hope and Purpose Ministries is asking for your prayers for the people in Pointe-Au-Chien and Montegut, and the whole bayou region. We know God is doing great work, we’ve seen smiles on people’s faces, we’ve seen sadness on some, but we know in the midst of all, God is raising up his spirit amongst this community,” Oney said.
