A Houma native is the official poster artist of this year’s Best of the Bayou Music Festival.

The local festival announced this past week that Kristen Whitney was the winner after a three-month contest which featured several submissions.

The release said Whitney’s work was chosen because it “showcases many aspects of the Best of the Bayou Music Festival and downtown Houma.”

Whitney said she’s excited to be chosen, adding that she’s a fan of the well-known music festival, which will be enjoying its sixth edition from Sept. 22-23 throughout the downtown area.

“I’ve always loved downtown and I go to the festival each year,” Whitney said. “That’s what I really wanted to capture – the feel of downtown, the music, the food, the car show. That’s what I enjoy every year. I also make sure to get a scoop of that Pop Rouge ice cream.”

Whitney will be on-hand to autograph posters at this year’s Best of the Bayou, though a set time has not been determined.

The original painting will be auctioned in the merchandise tent, which is located annually on Goode Street.
