A 16-year-old sophomore at Covenant Christian Academy died this past Friday – just hours before he was supposed to suit up for the Lions’ football team.

Caleb Allridge, of Houma, collapsed at his home Friday afternoon, just before he was slated to suit up in CCA’s game against Ridgewood Prep.

Allridge was pronounced dead at approximately 2 p.m.

As of press-time, the cause of death has not been determined, according to the coroner’s office.

Allridge’s death marked a tragic event for the Lions’ team, who rallied around their fallen classmate and emotionally won Friday’s game.

The sophomore was an offensive and defensive lineman for CCA throughout the season.

Lions coach Blyght Wunstell said Allridge was well liked by his teammates, and that CCA will dedicate the remainder of their season to the young man.

The Lions’ players carried Allridge’s jersey out to the field before Friday night’s game – just minutes after learning of his passing.
