Judge F. Hugh Larose handed Jeremiah Lee Wright a continuance during his arraignment Monday as defense council Kerry Cuccia secured approval on his motion for insanity testing on Wright.

Accused of the Aug. 14 murder and dismemberment of his 7-year-old son, Jori Lirette, District Attorney Cam Morvant II was able to get the defendant’s $5 million bond revoked as Wright remains held in the Lafourche Parish Jail.

“I can’t believe they are going with that insanity sā€”,” a woman attending Wright’s arraignment was heard saying. “It makes me sick.”

“I think everything went according to plan,” Cuccia said following the arraignment that lasted less than 10 minutes.

During the arraignment, Wright remained quiet as he was brought into the courtroom before the public was allowed access and was removed following proceedings in an issued red jumpsuit and shackles well before those in attendance were allowed to leave.

In arranging for Wright’s insanity testing the defense was permitted to appoint a sanity council. Cuccia declined to comment on Wright’s thoughts or understanding of the proceedings and refused to reveal what attributes led him to issue the insanity motion.

Testing and evaluation is to take place during September with the hearing on test results to be conducted before Judge Larose on Oct. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
