For the seventh time, the Lafourche Parish Finance Department has received a prestigious award.

The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada presented Lafourche Parish Government with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.

According to the award presenter, Lafourche Parish’s comprehensive annual financial reports “met the high standards of the program demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the reports.”

“We in the Finance Department are very pleased to once again receive this distinction,” Lafourche Parish Finance Director Renita Jackson said in an email to The Times. “It is our seventh year to receive this award, which demonstrated to everyone the commitment to excellence the members of the Finance Department strive to provide.”

Lafourche has won this award multiple years in a row and was one of 57 recipients in Louisiana and 4,007 total recipients last year.

Information regarding how many recipients there are total and in Louisiana this year were not available as of press time.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional association serving about 17,500 government finance professionals. Established in 2945, its goal is to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles.
