Ann Sanamo will challenge incumbent Jon Callais for the 12th District Lafourche Parish School Board seat.

Callais, who is running for his third term, is focused on educational services regarding the career center, and the budget.

“We are trying to give opportunities to all children as far as giving those who are not on a career path for college some occupational training,” Callais said. “The school that we’re looking to open in the Central Lafourche area would be geared more towards the trades for children who are not in the career path for college.”

Sanamo said that while there are many issues, the budget and financial would be her top priority if she were elected.

“I want to look at what we can do through the elected school board members in making our budget work so that our students can get the best education that we can give them,” Sanamo said. “There are many other issues, but I think the top issue is finance. We need to make sure our finances can allow the best education for the students.”

The challenger said she was motivated to run for the seat because of what the school board had given her when she worked for the parish as a teacher.

“I wanted to give back to the school system,” she said. “My degree and teaching experience all lead me back to the school board.”

Callais serves on the Advisory Committee, Finance Committee and chairs the Transportation Committee.
