Al Archer focused on budget problems and Mary Curole discussed the potential career center in Central Lafourche in lieu of their campaign for the 13th District seat on the Lafourche Parish School Board.

Archer said he wants the board to “become more efficient and effective in our management of money and time.

“You’re not going to see as much revenue flowing in because of the state budget issues, so our financial issues are a big concern. We have to be more conservative in our spending and more or less, just make sure we can maintain what we have and try to secure more grants to keep our financial base.”

Curole said she would like to look over the cuts that were made to this year’s budget, but her primary concern ins the proposed Career Center at Central Lafourche that would serve as a vocational school where students from other schools could also be bussed.

“I would like to see the fruition of the Career Center and bus students from all three high schools to that area,” Curole said. “I’d like to see it open and providing our students with another route to help them be work-ready when they finish.”

Archer, who has served two terms, said he appreciates the voters’ support and “I will continue to demonstrate the proven leadership I’ve shown to this point.”

Curole worked as an educator for 32 years at South Lafourche High School.

“I decided that I have a lot to offer in my community being a retired educator,” she said. “I am able to keep abreast educational issues and do what I can to serve on the school board.”
