Lafourche Parish Government has activated additional storm debris removal services after Hurricane Barry.
The parish announced that on July 23, the parish contracted storm debris contractors to begin picking up branches and tree debris placed at the curbside.
This pick-up will roll alongside regular garbage and trash collection.
Parish Government said the additional pickup work is expected to be going on for 2-3 weeks as contractors will be canvasing highways and parish streets looking for storm debris.
The parish and its contractors will not enter private property to collect debris.
Debris collection will occur at or very near the public right of ways. Property owners will be responsible to make sure the debris is placed in the proper location for collection.
To assist in these collection efforts, parish government asks that storm debris and regular garbage and trash be kept separate as much as possible:
They also ask locals to place all debris at street curbside away from fire hydrants, low hanging wires, water meters, etc.
Storm debris should be separated into different piles: (1) metal, (2) clean wood and tree debris, (3) white goods (household appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, a/c units, washers and dryers, microwave ovens, TV’s, etc…), (4) batteries, chemicals or other items that may be of a hazardous nature.
Loose debris should be boxed, bundled, and containerized as much as possible.
Government also asks to please not put debris in roadside ditches that may block drainage.
