A Larose man held police at bay for two hours Friday after allegedly attempting to burglarize a docked offshore supply boat docked on the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.

Daniel Boudreaux, 44, who is a registered sex offender, threatened to commit suicide while deputies negotiated with him, Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said. After firing a shotgun blast Boudreaux attempted to flee but was struck by a rubber projectile and taken into custody.

After a medical evaluation he was booked into the Lafourche Parish jail on charges that include aggravated burglary, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, Webre said.

Deputies were notified at around 9:30 a.m. that Boudreaux was on board the vessel, near the 500 block of Industrial Park Boulevard in Larose.

Responding officers determined that Boudreaux had armed himself with a shotgun he discovered while burglarizing the vessel.

“They also learned Boudreaux pointed the gun at the vessel owner after discovering him onboard,” said Sgt. Brennan Matherne, a department spokesman. “Upon arrival, deputies began negotiating with Boudreaux in an attempt to have him surrender peacefully, but Boudreaux refused and retreated inside the vessel’s wheelhouse.”

The parish’s Interagency Crisis Management Unit responded to the scene, and Boudreaux exited the wheelhouse and continued his conversation with negotiators.

“Shortly after 11:30 a.m., Boudreaux fired a single round from the shotgun into the air, and tactical teams converged on Boudreaux’s location,” Matherne said. “As Boudreaux attempted to flee, he was struck in the arm with rubber projectiles which allowed tactical units to take him into custody without further incident.”

“This was a tense situation with an armed suspect that could have taken a turn for the worse at any moment,” Webre said, praising the team’s work. “Thanks to the actions of the members of the Lafourche Parish Interagency Crisis Management Unit, we were able to end the standoff safely for all parties involved.”

Boudreaux was convicted of Felony Carnal Knowledge of a Juvenile in December 1999. He was forced to register as a sex offender in August 2001 upon his release from prison.
