The Louisiana Supreme Court has launched electronic filing for lawyers. Chief Justice Catherine D. “Kitty” Kimball said in a news release that the computer system offers 24-hour access to file court materials.

E-filing of documents begins with a 30-minute online training session, linked to the Supreme Court website at www.lasc.org and is required to secure e-filing privileges.

Once training is complete, a password is provided and documents can be filed online as an alternative to conventional hard-copy court filing. However, required hard copies of the e-filed documents will be made by the Clerk of Court office rather than by lawyers themselves.

Supreme Court e-filing involves a required $100 fee for writ applications and $50 for e-filing other court documents, including oppositions replies and amicus curiae briefs. E-filing costs are charged in addition to regular filing fees.

At this time, e-filing is limited to lawyers in good standing with the Louisiana Supreme Court. The court will continue accepting by-hand filings and standard mail delivery in accordance with existing court rules.

“I would like to commend Justice Marcus Clark for spearheading this project to where attorneys statewide can do business with the Supreme Court online,” Kimball said. “I would additionally like to thank the clerk of court staff, the information technology staff and all of the attorneys who participated in focus group testing of the system.”

Technical assistance with the website and filing can be secured by the clerk of court office Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
