Since yesterday, 12,467 new Covid-19 cases have been reported to the state. This is the highest single day spike in history of pandemic. That number is out of 54,374 reported tests.

762 people are hospitalized, 103 more than yesterday. 32 of those patients are on ventilators.

The majority of those patients are not fully vaccinated.

This update includes new cases among all age groups, with the largest shares among those ages 18-29 (25%) and ages 30-39 (19%). This update includes new cases across all regions of the state, with 24% coming from Region 1 (Greater New Orleans), 20% coming from Region 2 (Baton Rouge) and 13% coming from Region 7 (Northwest).
Of these new cases reported to us since 12/29, 97.8% are tied to community spread rather than congregate settings.

Tragically, we report 2 additional Covid-19 deaths reported to the state.

Since 12/16, COVID-19 hospitalizations have more than tripled.

Terrebonne Parish is reporting 329 new cases since yesterday, for a total of 21,132. The percent positivity has gone up to 9.30% from 4.60%.

Lafourche Parish is reporting a total of 19,232. The percent positivity has gone up to 8.50% from 5.30%.

In Region 3, 375 hospital beds are in use, leaving 156 available. 36 ICU beds are in use, leaving 24 available.

LDH recommends getting vaccinated and boosted, masking indoors as well as outside when distancing is not possible, and limiting your exposure to those not in your household.
