The Louisiana Department of Health is seeking to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the required immunizations list for anyone entering a school in the state.

LDH released a “notice of intent” in September. It reads in part: “The proposed amendments add vaccines for SARS-CoV-2 to the list of required vaccinations for school entry to the extent that such vaccines are approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the individual’s age, and also require such vaccines, and all potential boosters, on the same basis for school attendance.”

“We continue to move through the regular rule-making process to add the COVID vaccine to the OPH immunization schedule,” said LDH spokesman Kevin Littin, in a statement on Friday. “We encourage everyone who is eligible to get the COVID vaccine to protect themselves and those around them, especially as we enter the holiday season.”

The CDC approved emergency use authorizations of vaccinations for anyone 5 and up. Pfizer is the only vaccine that has been fully approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
