Mark Jeff coat walked up to a table with a couple dollar bills in his hand.

Sweat beamed off Jeff coat’s brow, as the early-morning clouds gave way to the bright

May sun.

“I’ll take one,” he said with a smile.

A child on the other end of the table handed him a glass filled to the top with ice-cold lemonade.

“Thank you Sir,” she said with a smile, while handing the money to a helper in her booth.

Jeffcoat said he initially had an envie for a soft drink and his plans were to go to a local gas station to get a fountain drink.

But he then remembered the advice of his wife, who told him that Saturday was National Lemonade Day, which quickly made his envie change.

He, instead went to the Houma Airbase Pavilion and indulged in a fast-growing, fun

annual event, which teaches locals basic principals, while also quenching the thirst of

hundreds in the Houma-Thibodaux area.

Locals tout that Lemonade Day was again a success – an event which allowed area children to learn responsibility and the basic principles of business for a few hours, while selling their masterpiece recipes to the public.

In the Houma-Thibodaux area, there were two official Lemonade Day locations – one

at the Houma Airbase Pavilion and the other at the Thibodaux Fireman’s Fairgrounds, which were part of a 5K race, which was taking place that day.

Other neighborhood stations were setup at street corners, in backyards and wherever else local children thought business might be booming.

Lemonade Day is growing each year and more locals are

taking part in the event.

For children ages 4-18, the event annually has 17,000 participants across the country.

And at each official sanctioned Lemonade Stand, children are rewarded for their hard work, creativity and diligence with awards and prizes.

Local Lemonade Day events this year were sponsored by Synergy Bank, Raising Canes,

Rouses Markets, Terrebonne Parish Library, Children’s Water Safety Awareness and the

Thibodaux Fireman’s Fair. Hundreds of cups were sold during the day, including to Jeffcoat, who said he’d never participated in Lemonade Day before this year.

When asked about the taste, he didn’t mince words.

“It hit the spot,” he said with a smile. “I was a pleased customer, for sure.”
