Niles Riche'

A local school principal announced today that he is running for Lafourche Parish Council.

Niles Riche', a long-time Assumption High School principal and current principal at Belle Rose Middle School, announced his intentions to challenge for the District 2 seat in Lafourche for the Oct. 12, 2019 election.

That seat will be vacated in October by current council member Luci Sposito, who is currently one of several candidates attempting to run for Parish President.

Riche' has worked in Assumption Parish for 20 years. He's served on a governor-appointed council on graduation and is a member of the Knights of Columbus and the LHSAA. With the athletic association, he served as President from 2016-17.

Riche' also attempted to become the Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent in 2018, applying for the job that was eventually given to Dr. Louis Voiron.

"I am experienced in working with people and committees," Riche' said. "I have wonderful communication skills and love our community. I look forward to working with the people from District 2 on all aspects of our community to improve the quality of life for all."

Riche' said he loves the Houma-Thibodaux area, adding that he wants to work to help the parish move forward into its future - one which will have a new parish president.

Current Parish President Jimmy Cantrelle announced last week that he will not seek re-election.

"It will be a great privilege to serve on the Lafourche Parish Council," Riche' said. "My goals will be building a better community, one that maintains that 'small town' feel in our neighborhoods. I appreciate your consideration to serve as your District 2 Councilman."
