Members of the Lafourche Oilman’s Association are accepting grant applications for distributing financial assistance to area schools, organizations and individuals.

“We had 10 applicants last year and gave in excess of $67,000 to all the applicants last year,” LOA President and Sea Support President Randy Adams said. Recipients during 2011 included Restore or Retreat, Fletcher Technical Community College Foundation, the Bayou Country Children’s Museum, St. Mary’s Nativity School, Larose Lower Elementary School and other institutions. The LOA also offers four scholarships per year to high school students advancing to traditional or technical college work.

The LOA is comprised of oil and gas professionals offering support and goodwill to area communities through charitable giving.

“Our sole fundraiser right now is a fishing rodeo we put on in Port Fourchon,” Adams said. “Our first year we had 67 teams and this year we had 92 teams. We gave out prizes and raised money for the grants. It is all to promote the oil and gas business and give back to the community.”

The LOA grant application deadline ISD Nov. 15. The mailing address is P.O. Box 1270, Cut Off, La. 70345. Applicants may also see www.fourchonoilmans.com to register.
