More than 500 aspiring entrepreneurs from throughout Louisiana will have the opportunity in Houma this summer to acquire the knowledge that can make their dreams a reality.

The inaugural “Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest: For Youth and First-Time Entrepreneurs” is set for June 20-21 at the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

Spearheaded by Louisiana Economic Development (LED) and the Terrebonne Parish Economic Development Authority (TEDA), the purpose of the conference is to teach attendees the basics of establishing and growing a business – allowing them to return home with comprehensive knowledge to complete a business plan.

The statewide entrepreneurial symposium will target high school juniors and seniors, university students, entrepreneurial-minded non-students, veterans and teachers.

“I am delighted that Terrebonne Parish will be the site of this conference,” said Steve Vassallo, chief executive officer of TEDA. “TEDA’s mission is to expand and recruit business in the Houma region. The ‘idea seeds’ planted this summer will no doubt contribute to that mission in coming years. We hope this fest will be the first of many.”

Vassallo said the conference agenda will include a number of keynote presentations and breakout sessions led by business and industry leaders.

Among those scheduled to appear are Laura Valenti, Mrs. Louisiana International 2013 and founder of the SHE-Selling consulting firm; James Griffith, owner of Care Inc.; and Marvin O. Smith, president of Spectrum Marketing Group and Authorized Local Expert for Constant Contact.

“We are thrilled that so many successful Louisianans have agreed to be part of this event – to share their experience and insight with the next generation of entrepreneurs,” Vassallo said. “I am confident that all who attend the Louisiana Entrepreneurship Fest will leave enlightened and inspired, and our state will benefit as a result.”
