Saying they want to set the example, staff members behind the Terrebonne Economic Development Authority Foundation announced Friday that they will rent out two offices to entrepreneurs needing a spot to get their businesses started.

Creating a business incubator in the economic agency’s headquarters at 319 Roussell St., in Houma, TEDAFo is looking for a cross section of start-up industries that would include finance, new media or technology.

Space could be leased on an annual or semiannual basis. Offices rent for $500 a month.

“TEDA is looking for a few good tenants,” TEDA CEO Steve Vassallo said. “Growing business is a growing theme and we want to be leading by example.”

In addition to offering workspace, the TEDAFo incubator will offer renters use of a conference room, by-weekly networking events and support services such as mentoring, business training and support services.

Assistance will also be offered in market plan development, evaluating and selecting funding products, accounting services, technology and analysis regarding business implications for all tenants.

“This is exciting in that we will literally be watching businesses evolve as we come to work each day,” Vassallo said. “Because we have available space, we would like to test the market here without incurring the cost of a new facility. If the experiment is a success, bigger and better days with more opportunities are right around the corner.”

Applications may be completed at the TEDA headquarters. Detailed information can be secured by email at svassallo@tpeda.org or call (985) 873-6890.
