Terrebonne Parish’s oldest continually functioning real estate company has joined forces with a major national brokerage network, its owners have announced, promising that the move will benefit property owners, buyers and the local economy in a variety of ways.

LaRussa Real Estate is now the newest member of the Coldwell Banker global franchise network and will now do business as Coldwell Banker LaRussa Real Estate.

The local firm, which handles property sales and management, was founded 46 years ago by S.P. LaRussa. According to Coldwell Banker, it is verified as the “oldest locally owned real estate company serving Terrebonne, Lafourche, Saint Mary and Assumption Parishes.”

Coldwell Banker LaRussa Real Estate, with Michael LaRussa as its president, has 22 independent sales associates with more than 505 years of combined experience in real estate sales.

“We are proud to have S.P., Michael and his sales associates as part of the Coldwell Banker network and look forward to expanding the Coldwell Banker presence into the Louisiana Bayou,” said Budge Huskey, president and chief executive officer of Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC.

“LaRussa Real Estate has been a recognized leader in Houma for nearly 50 years,” Michael LaRussa said. “Aligning with Coldwell Banker Real Estate, which has an unmatched 110-year-old brand legacy, will allow us to better serve our agents and reach consumers through their unrivaled resources and marketing power. Our area offers a sense of community coupled with an affordable cost of living. Our housing market continues to hold firm on pricing which makes homeownership in this area a great investment. Our inventory levels are bucking the national trend so this makes it a great opportunity for home buyers to find the perfect home.”

When S.P. LaRussa founded his company, he had been working as a coach at local schools. He was also elected to the Terrebonne Parish School Board. He is perhaps most widely known, however, as the founder of the Krewe of Hercules, the largest Carnival krewe in Terrebonne, which holds the second largest Carnival celebration in Louisiana.

When he founded LaRussa Real Estate in 1970, S.P. took an innovative approach, by joining forces with a magazine called Homes For Living, considered a revolutionary move at the time. The gamble paid off by enabling partnership with a resource that allowed a much bigger draw-down pool of potential buyers than what then were more traditional approaches.

The affiliation with Coldwell Banker, both father and son said, continues the LaRussa tradition of innovation.

“It gives us more resources plus more marketing ability,” said Michael LaRussa. “It’s more marketing ability nationwide. There is no denying that, and nowadays it is important to compete in a national market.”
