The longest-standing Lafourche Parish Councilman is attempting to continue his run.

Daniel Lorraine announced on Monday afternoon that he will run for re-election to Lafourche Parish Council in District Nine.

Lorraine has been a councilman since 1984. In his tenure, he's seen multiple parish presidents and have served with literally hundreds of council members.

Lorraine said in his announcement that he is eager to use his experience to serve the people of Lafourche Parish into the future.

Lorraine said he's now retired from his regular job, which he believes will allow him to better focus on his district, which covers some of Galliano down south until the Lafourche/Jefferson border toward Grand Isle.

"I have the integrity, knowledge and the experience to continue to serve," Lorraine said. "We have no retirement. I have not missed any council meetings in the last four years. I also go on the radio once  a month to let people know what is going on. I also attend the Golden Meadow town meetings, the Port Commission meetings, South Lafourche Levee District, Hospital District and Drainage District meetings."

Lorraine said he believes his past four years have been productive, citing numerous projects and funding that he's given to his district, including a Leeville fishing pier, the Golden Meadow Skate Park and three docks constructed in Golden Meadow with two recreational boat docks and one commercial boat dock, among other projects.

Lorraine also said he wants to continue to see growth at Port Fourchon, despite a slow economy locally.

In the past four years, he pointed to several projects that have helped the port, including the redoing of Airport Road and the Fourchon Beach Restoration Project.

"I will make my promise to you, the people of District 9, to continue to serve you to the best of my ability and you be the judge," Lorraine said. "I would appreciate your consideration on October 12, 2019 and early voting begins on September 28 to October 5, excluding September 29, 2019."
