After opening on the first Saturday of February, the Lafourche Parish Animal Shelter (LPAS) will begin offering open hours on the first Saturday of every month, including this Saturday, March 7, from 8 a.m. to noon.

Patrons will be able to adopt animals as well as sign up for spay and neuter services.

During its Feb. 7 opening, three cats were adopted, five more went to rescue groups and seven people signed up for the parish’s spay and neuter program.

Parish Deputy Director of Community Services Reggie Bagala said the Saturday openings are an effort to meet the public’s demand for more flexible shelter hours.

Animal Shelter Manager Hilary Knight would like people over the age of 18 to volunteer to assist her during the weekend openings.

The animal shelter is located at 934 Hwy. 3185 in Thibodaux.
