UPDATE: Suspect still at large in Sunday night shooting in Downtown Houma
July 29, 2019

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputy Brandon Queen was patrolling a Thibodaux neighborhood this weekend – a routine occurrence on his job.

What happened next is a story worth telling.

When Deputy Queen saw a group of children playing, he stopped and taught them a life lesson: that police officers are members of the community and they, too, can laugh, smile and have a good time – just like anyone else.

Deputy Queen stopped and hung out briefly with the group of boys. Thibodaux native Nadine Gray posted pictures of the occasion on social media, saying that the officer showed the kids that policemen are friendly and kind people who have the community’s best interests at heart.

He even shot hoops with the kids for a minute before hopping in his car and getting back to work keeping the community safe.

“Things that bring us closer together!” Nadine Gray said in her Facebook post.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Great job, Deputy Queen!
