If you’re traveling in central Lafourche Parish this weekend, don’t be surprised to see authorities heavily patrolling.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, along with state police, Terrebonne Parish deputies and Thibodaux, Lockport and Golden Meadow Police, will hold DWI checkpoints from 9 a.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday.

“Traffic safety has always been a priority for this agency,” Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre said. “This year, we are actually increasing those efforts. The last thing we want to do this holiday weekend is notify someone’s mother that their son or daughter has perished in a crash caused by a drunk driver.”

Webre said officers will be strictly enforcing seat belt compliance and arresting impaired drivers.
