The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government through the Houma Police Department will be working together to aid the flow of traffic to and around the Houma Intracoastal Tunnel while the Bayou La Carpe Bridge is closed to traffic due to repairs.

Deputies and city police officers will direct traffic at key points during peak hours mornings and evenings beginning Thursday morning, March 5, through the expected month-long repair operation. Barricades and cones will be used at some locations, officers and deputies at others. Motorists are asked to follow the directions of law enforcement personnel as well as those indicated by signs and cones.  The plan will focus on public safety and reducing travel time from one side of Houma to the other.

(Please see the maps at the end of the article for images to help clarify.)

East Tunnel:  Louisiana DOTD barricades will be placed in the turning lanes along Tunnel Blvd between the Houma Intercoastal Waterway Tunnel and Grand Caillou Road, preventing U-turns or cross-overs. This action will allow traffic to flow in both directions. Traffic will also be redirected at the intersection of Beatrice Street and Tunnel Blvd to be able to allow the continuous flow.

West Tunnel: A barricade will be used to redirect traffic at the intersection of Honduras Street and Division Ave to allow the continuous flow of traffic into the westside entrance of the tunnel.

Howard Ave Bridge: A barricade will be used to redirect traffic at the intersection of Main Street and Howard Ave. No traffic will be allowed westbound on Main Street towards Grand Caillou Road. All traffic will turn north or south onto Howard Ave.

Grand Caillou Rd and Park Ave:  Barricades and traffic cones will be used to redirect traffic in the following directions. No traffic will be allowed to travel southbound onto Grand Caillou Rd from Park Ave. The northbound inside traffic lane on Grand Caillou Rd will turn left onto the Park Ave overpass. The northbound outside traffic lane on Grand Caillou Rd will turn right onto Park Ave. Finally, the westbound traffic on Park Ave will continuously flow.

Grand Caillou Rd and Main Street: Barricades and traffic cones will be used to redirect traffic in the following directions, all traffic from the Main Street overpass will make a right turn onto Grand Caillou Rd. All Northbound traffic on Grand Caillou Rd will continuously flow toward Park Ave. No traffic will be allowed westbound on Main Street.
