A Cut Off woman was killed Mardi Gras morning in a Houma hit-and-run.

Houma Police responded to an accident shortly before 2 a.m. Fat Tuesday in the 200 block of Howard Avenue. According to police, a vehicle struck a woman as she crossed Howard. The woman, Rona Delatte, 46, of Cut Off, was transported to the hospital, where she died from her injuries.


A dark-colored Honda Accord left the scene, according to authorities. Houma Police Chief Dana Coleman said the suspected vehicle near Sonny and Boudreaux streets. Police identified the driver as Telisa Clark, 50, of Houma. She surrendered to police around 4 a.m.

Clark was charged with hit and run (serious bodily injury/fatality). The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years. Authorities said alcohol is not suspected at this point, but toxicology results are pending from the Louisiana State Police Lab.

Coleman said Clark was treated at a local hospital for injuries she sustained in the incident. He said Clark would be arrested upon her medical release.


The investigation is ongoing.
