Nicholls State University business students will be competing with their peers from across the country in Thibodaux today.

The university’s College of Business Administration is hosting its 14th annual Bayou Sales Challenge. The competition began yesterday and finishes with an awards ceremony and lunch at the Union Plantation Suite today.

The challenge features eight schools, mostly Louisiana schools but also including some out-of-state teams. The eight schools are Nicholls, Florida State University, Illinois State University, Louisiana State University, Southern University, University of Arkansas-Little Rock, University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Xavier University.

The challenge represents a chance for the students to test their marketing and sales skills in high-pressure environments while also meeting their current, collegiate peers and future, professional colleagues. Yesterday’s events started with a sales discussion panel before the first round of role-playing competition. NSU then hosted an informal social before students had another competition with wild card role-plays.

Today’s events give students eliminated from the competition time to meet with professionals in the field. While the challenge’s semi finals and pressure rounds go on, there will be a Bayou Sales Career Expo from 8 – 11:30 a.m. Those are followed by the role-play finals before the winner’s can be honored and all participants can be fed at the awards ceremony at the suite.
