Nicholls State University Professor of Computer Information Systems is now one of a few worldwide to have earned the designation of Certificated Analytics Professional (CAP).

Dr. Mao is one of just 503 analytics professionals in the world – and 344 in the U.S. – to have earned this certification.

The program has been named a top big data and data analytics certification by CIO.com, and a “top data science certification program” for professionals looking to gain an edge by Dataconomy and Analytics Insight.

Dr. Mao said she sought the certification as a way to better herself and inspire her students.

“This was a goal I set for myself,” Dr. Mao said. “It is a challenging process to prepare for the exam. I wanted to increase my competency in analytics, which has become my favorite subject to teach. I was very proud of myself that I was able to achieve it.”

Dr. Marilyn Macik-Frey, dean of the College of Business Administration, commended Dr. Mao’s work with the Nicholls CIS program and highlighted her partnership with the Cardiovascular Institute of the South.

“Achieving this designation is a testament to Dr. Mao’s dedication to our CIS Data Analytics concentration students,” Dr. Macik-Frey said. “The data analytics students in her courses are achieving exceptional levels of understanding and skill in a high demand field.”
