Congratulations to Omo Oboh, a sophomore at Nicholls State University, on being named the Southland Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week.

This award was a first for the program this season and for head coach Stefanie Slekis.

“Omo is off to a great sophomore year,” Slekis said in an interview for the Colonels. “Academically, she was just accepted into Nicholls’ extremely competitive nursing program; athletically, she put in a excellent fall with assistant coach Courtney Lord, taking on the challenge of competing in the 60m Hurdles for the first time in her career in addition to staying competitive in the 400m, not to mention preparing for her signature event – the outdoor 400m hurdles. For her to come out in her first 60m hurdles race and finish No. 2 all-time for Nicholls says everything of her commitment and coach Lord’s ability to prepare her for the event. I was very proud to see her continue to get after it the rest of the day at LSU, setting an indoor 400m personal best and leading off a strong 4x400m relay for our team. Omo is committed to being a big contributor, and her performance at this first meet proved she will be a major competitor for our team this season.”
