UPDATE

TPSO released the following regarding this morning’s investigation at Houma Junior High:

Sheriff Tim Soignet assures parents that there is NO threat to students at Houma Junior High, other than unsubstantiated rumors.
Two additional deputies were assigned to the school this morning to assist the School Resource Officer address rumors that have been circulating which have nothing to do with Houma Junior High.

“As a parent, I understand that it is easy for parents to be on edge when they hear of things whether they are true or not,” Sheriff Soignet said. “If at any time a threat to safety exists at any of our schools, protocols are in place to address it. I ask that students and parents both do their part to keep misinformation from spreading. In this situation that is all that has occurred, is the spreading of unsubstantiated rumors.”

The Sheriff asks parents to please not act on information that is not confirmed by school officials or law enforcement.

Law enforcement investigated an alleged threat at Houma Junior High on Friday morning; however, there is no threat to the school, officials said.

A spokesperson with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed with the Times that at least one officer was sent to the school and discovered no threat.
