Ochsner Health is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year! As the institution marks such a milestone, they are thrilled to spotlight some of their longest serving employees.
Piper Volpi, a registered nurse, began her career at Ochsner Medical Center in 2002 as a supervisor in the nephrology department. She is now supervisor of operations at Ochsner Medical Center – Kenner performing quality and regulatory operations.
“Part of my role is to look for ways to improve quality and safety. I conduct routine rounds and audits within all the clinics and provide feedback and education to the team,” Piper said. “Our culture at Ochsner is to have purpose and make a difference. It’s why I love working for this organization. I believe in our mission, vision and core values. I enjoy the team approach in everything we do at Ochsner. We support each other professionally and personally. You just don’t get that everywhere.”
Piper says she enjoys making a difference in the community and credits her colleagues for providing exceptional care to patients.
Over the course of two decades, Piper has witnessed firsthand the growth of Ochsner. “We have come a long way in the 20 years that I have been part of this team. When I started, we still had paper charts. We now have electronic medical records that continue to evolve. I love how patients can see their records, chat with staff members online and book appointments. The nursing profession is constantly changing. What I have learned over the years is impossible to list. What I can say is that I’ve had some amazing mentors that have truly cared about me and encouraged my growth and development as a leader.
“One of the most impactful periods during my time at Ochsner has been the COVID-19 pandemic and hurricanes Katrina and Ida. It was amazing to see how everyone was working toward the same goal: to put our patients first. We continue to stand together and always will. Each employee, at every level, has a job to do, and no job is more important than another. We always work through challenges as a team.”
